The Business’s Rain Chains Are Being Bought as Part of the Solution to the State’s Drought
Now that the Marrgon has been able to penetrate the rain chain market and grow its share, it’s been conducting some analysis and have found an interesting trend. Of the total amount of items sold, a significant percentage of them are being shipped to a particular state: California.
During 2015, National Geographic has reported on the drought in California and on water scarcity across the west coast of the United States; it’s been shown how an increase in the average temperature and the lack of snow in the Sierra Nevada mountains and Cascades have dramatically reduced snowmelt, a crucial factor that provides water to California and its agriculture in the Central Valley. "Once aquifers are depleted, the state will have no backup supplies to surface water. Desalination could make up some of the difference, but can be expensive and is energy-intensive." said Dennis Dimick from National Geographic. Therefore, certain measures have been implemented in the state, some of which have concentrated on reducing water consumption 25% for households, with agriculture not being regulated yet.

Marrgon attributes this phenomenon to the fact the 40% of the copper rain chains they sell ship to California. Although at first founders, Alejandro and Miguel, weren’t conscious about the environmental problem and considered the product was bought for decorational purposes only as written in a previous press release; now, after being able to read a significant amount of customer comments, they concluded that most of them buy them as part of a rain barrel project for storing rainwater; which tells them that people is in fact responding to the water issue.
The business hopes this situation can make it as an example for other states (and for the world as well) to consider water as a real and present issue and start adopting some measures like Californians have; resulting in an opportunity for Marrgon to become a main provider of a solution to the environmental problem through its Golden Canary Copper Rain Chains.
