Golden Canary Makes a Move Towards Greener Products

Based on the last post from July 12, where the green characteristics of copper were discussed as to why it’s considered a sustainable material; Marrgon, through its Golden Canary brand, decided two months ago that new all pure copper rain chain models were going to be launched and sold on Amazon in order to create more value for customers. However, founders and brothers, Alejandro and Miguel, were not completely conscious that this move represented a step forward towards creating a “greener” product.
The current models the Golden Canary brand offers, the school bell shaped cups and the ship bell shaped cups, feature pure copper cups and a copper plated aluminum chain; and it’s in this last characteristic where the ecological problem exists, as the chain isn’t made from a single material but from a “mixture”, making it difficult/energy intensive to recycle it in a future. This wasn’t chosen on purpose by Alejandro and Miguel, rather it was the only option they had to start the business considering the costs and the end price at which they would have to sell it, which was way above the market’s.
However, 7 months into the adventure and having decided the launch of two new all pure copper models (chain and cups), founders learned during their product research the advantages and sustainable characteristics of copper; helping them decide that they will start to switch their current rain chain models to all pure copper ones as well. In fact, the school bell shaped cups is now being manufactured and will be available to customers at the end of July.
So killing two birds with one stone, Golden Canary will now offer just all pure copper rain chains that will add more value to customers and the environment as well; although a challenge still exists, the “V” hook from where the rain chain is hanged is made from brass because of the increased cost of making it pure copper, as it’s a piece that needs more material. Alejandro and Miguel commented that it’s just a matter of time for the business to mature that will later help them reduce costs and be able to change the “V” hook to copper as well.
