2 Things You Ought to Know About Golden Canary and the Environment

If there’s one thing that should concern us as human beings, that’s the impact we’re having on our environment and only home, Earth. There has always been two sides of the coin: those who argue that global warming is just one more natural cycle of our planet and the others who say that us, humans, have directly affected and accelerated a rise in temperature in the globe.

I personally like to see situations from the third side of the coin, its edge. I do agree the Earth has its natural cycles in which some years are colder or hotter; but there’s a reality we can’t change: we use Earth’s resources and they are finite. What do I mean? That they eventually will deplete; poof, gone, nada. And the way we manage these resources has lead to air and water pollution, deforestation, ocean acidification, etc. So the real issue I consider a primary concern is: what will happen when those natural Earth cycles get compounded with our human-influenced environmental changes?

At Golden Canary, my brother and I have made it our mission to make everything possible that’s in our control to operate in a way that’s environmentally friendly; not as a reaction to the consequences we’re living, but because we believe that, global warming or not, this is the way we should all work in harmony with our home, Earth.

We’ve recently made two major changes to our Golden Canary Copper Rain Chains so they can be aligned to our vision and I’ll be glad to share them with you. First, we recently started manufacturing all our rain chains pure copper (cups and chain links), different from the ones we offered in the past with a copper-plated aluminum chain.

  • Copper has an infinite recyclable life, therefore, it can be used over and over again.

  • Its recycling value is so great that premium-grade scrap normally has 95% of the metal’s value from newly mined ore.

This is why copper is considered a green material, as it helps us conserve natural resources by giving them an extended use. At Marrgon, I’m proud to share with you that our Golden Canary Rain Chains are made from recycled copper, acting congruently with our commitment to the environment.

Second, we recently upgraded our rain chains’ packages (cardboard box) to a thicker one for better product protection. While working on the decision, we considered that since our items are being sold online (no one can physically see the box), there’s no practical reason for them to be printed with a design. So we concluded that we wouldn’t print on them in an effort to save resources and energy, as the main feature we were looking for on the package was item protection and it worked perfectly fine that way.

I will lastly like to share with you that these changes, although helping us reduce our impact on the environment, help us as well create a better product that adds more value to you, our customer. An all pure-copper rain chain will enhance your home’s beauty and, in the future, develop a breathtaking patina that will give it and your house a unique touch; at the same time that it can help you harvest rainwater in a rain barrel, addressing the water conservation issue which is important as well.
